State Secretary says US can return sanctions vs Nord Stream 2

WASHINGTON, Jun 7 (PRIME) -- The U.S. can recall its exclusion from the sanctions list for Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Russia’s Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, U.S. State Secretary Antony Blinken said on Monday.

We have released a decision to exclude Nord Stream 2 AG and its CEO from the U.S. sanctions list due to the state security reasons. The exclusion can be recalled, he said.

Germany has returned to the discussion and we are negotiating actively moves that can and need to be done to ensure compensation of transit payments that Ukraine can lose in the future, because the pipeline will bypass it, he also said.

In May, Blinken said in a statement that suspending sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG was in line with the U.S.’ interests.
